Not Enough

enough value May 15, 2019

by Nancy Lindgren

Do you know how valuable you are? You may not hear it spoken to you in a way that you would like to hear, but the truth is your worth does not depend on someone telling you, showing you, or giving you something. Your value depends on what God says and He says you are a daughter of the King and you are worth far more than precious gems and jewels.

I was reading Proverbs 31:10-31 this morning and was again struck with the fact that I could feel like I never measure up or I’m not quite doing enough (especially since I don’t always get up when it is still dark, haven’t bought a field or planted a vineyard and I’m not making linen garments and selling them). I think the number one struggle I hear from moms today is that they feel like they are not enough.

Ladies, can I be really frank with you? We aren’t enough and we will never be enough, but God in us is enough.  Isn't that freeing? Our job is to do the best we know how to do and let God fill in all of our gaps.

We will fall short. We will mess up. We are lacking. We are not sufficient. We are weak. We are imperfect. Let’s admit it and look to and lean on the One who is All-Sufficient, All-Powerful, All-Knowing. The One who is Perfect in every way.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 is a promise from God to us: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Let’s respond as Paul did and say “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

The really sweet thing is to see our children and husband rising up and calling us blessed and praising us even though they know we are not enough.

I hope you were celebrated beautifully on Mother's Day. Most of all, I hope you live every day as a radiant display of our Jesus who IS ENOUGH!
