Val's Impact Story

Hi, I'm Val from West Des Moines, Iowa. I love coffee dates, trail walking, watching sports on TV and road trips. I'm a wife to Joe, mom to 2 teen daughters and 2 "adulting" daughters, and most importantly I’m a daughter of the King of Kings!
A few years ago, I found myself willing (though scared to death!) to mentor a young mom. I wanted to encourage her, pray for her and add value to her life but I didn’t know where to begin! I wasn’t sure what I had to offer and I didn’t know how to start meaningful conversations to jumpstart such an important relationship. I needed a tool in my tool box!
That’s where MORE Mentoring and this book “Together” stepped in for me. Togethercreates space for mentoring relationships to begin and grow. I began to meet with a young mom of 3 littles at Panera every other Thursday morning, bright and early at 7 am! We came eagerly with our books, ready to share and learn from each other. Through the variety of questions, some light-hearted and fun and others more probing and deep, I got to know this young mom in new and different ways. We had sweet times of guided prayer. The use of Together truly took our relationship to a whole new level and God used it to springboard our friendship for our mutual encouragement and His Glory.
When hard things come into our lives, we must fight against our temptation to isolate and go it alone! God instructs us in Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV): “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.”
In our ALONENESS, we believe Satan’s lies about ourselves and others. In our TOGETHERNESS, our friends love us and speak God’s truth into us.
In our ALONENESS, we think we are the only one who’s ever had this problem. In our TOGETHERNESS, our friends say ME TOO!
In our ALONENESS, we cut ourselves off from those who love us and want to support us. In our TOGETHERNESS, we welcome help and encouragement from God and others.
I have recommended this book to many current mentors, potential mentors and church ministry leaders. And now I wholeheartedly recommend it to YOU.
